This is an ethnographic film by David Lewis and Rick Gregory that documents the complex and risky livelihoods of informal fish seed traders.

These small scale informal sector traders journey across the country by train and on foot to sell their fry, keeping their precious cargo alive by oxygenating the water by hand.

The film is counterpart to the book Trading the Silver Seed: Local knowledge and market moralities in aquacultural Development by David Lewis, Geof D. Wood, and Rick Gregory (Intermediate Technology Publications, 1996).

The commentary is by Charlie Beall.
