Olive Street Elementary School teacher Jill Stokes is introducing her second-grade students to computer programming (coding) and started with an engineering project. Using only nine gumdrops and toothpicks, students had to build a tower that would support and hold a book for 10 seconds. One goal of the project was to teach persistence to the students and not giving up, even if the result is unsuccessful at first.
