Is it Hard to Love Me? Spoken Word Poem Short Film by Mariana Medina

this film means the world to me.

even though this was film in about 2 hours with my iphone, a gimble that i couldn’t figure out how to use lol, and a very rough av script, this is probably my most personal project so far.

what i love about acting is being able to portray all kinds of characters and dive into a whole different persona; sometimes very similar to me, or sometimes the complete opposite of me. however, being in front of the camera and telling such a personal experience, and sharing it in a form of art i’ve never shared with anyone, made me extremely uncomfortable and self conscious. i’ve had this project for months, just waiting for me to finish it and publish it, but i just couldn’t bring myself to.

however, a couple days ago i had a beautiful encounter that made me realize why i started sharing my films in the first place. lots of you have reached out to me and told me how much my films have touched you, and how you can unfortunately relate to some of them. hearing your stories and seeing how much of an effect these films have had makes me understand that while my films may show a very vulnerable and raw side of me, that’s what makes you guys like them. being able to relate; to be seen and heard. to know that you’re not alone, and that there’s nothing to be ashamed of because you’re not the only one.

i started making films because of school, and today i continue to make films because i hope i can make a difference in the world. so, here’s me at my most vulnerable self so far; i hope you enjoy “is it hard to love me?” (link is in my bio for the whole film)
