Israel says Hamas has handed over the first seven hostages to the Red Cross as part of the Gaza ceasefire deal, as crowds gathered in Tel Aviv to celebrate their release. A Red Cross official involved in the operation said the first convoy arrived at the first hostage collection point in Gaza just after 8am local time (6am BST). The release of the hostages will continue through to 10am (8am BST) as part of a “multi-phase operation” which will also see hundreds of Palestinians released from Israeli jails in exchange.
