The Marriage of Heaven and Hell~William Blake

Описание к видео The Marriage of Heaven and Hell~William Blake

This short engraved book is William Blake's personal manifesto, announcing his prophetic mission and the dawn of a new age. Viewers unfamiliar with Blake or with esoteric Christianity may find it perplexing and conventional church-goers will find it shocking.

The ideas set forth here are so outrageous to conventional wisdom that they are made tolerable only by Blake's matchless irony, which continually reminds us that this is poetry and not theology.

It is the most humorous of Blake’s books, a satire in which High Churchmen are symbolized by angels (since that is the way they perceive themselves) and true visionary Christians like Blake are devils - since that is the way High Churchmen perceive them!

Blake is eulogizing both Christianity and 17th century empiricism when he declares that the universe is psychological, egocentric and differs with each individual. There is something in "The Marriage" to offend everyone--everyone except the free thinker.
