ヨーロッパ最高の絶景とも謳われ、標高500m〜650mの渓谷に沿って連なるコバルトブルーの湖の数はなんと16。まるで「湖の段々畑」のようです。
そして、その湖の間を無数の滝が繋いでいます。ときに水は森の中を縫うように流れ、森と水が混然と溶け合う、珍しい光景を生み出します。
16ある湖は、大小さまざまな92の滝によって繋がっており、1つの滝を乗り越えると、その上にまたコバルトブルーの湖と美しい滝が現れる。およそ8kmに渡って続く絶景の渓谷を遡ります。
世界的にも珍しい「階段状の湖」。湖と湖を隔てる段差は、崖のようであったり、なだらかな斜面にできた森であったり様々です。
また、プリトヴィツェは、冬になると様相が一変します！氷点下10度を下回り、雪と氷に閉ざされるのです。
夏にコバルトブルーに輝いていた湖面も、色を失い、漆黒に。滝の水もつららのように凍り付くさまは見ものです。

Summer is the time to go! The best scenery in Europe—Cobalt blue lakes

This time, we visit Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, a World Heritage Site that is said to have the most spectacular scenery in Europe. The 16 cobalt blue lakes running up a valley at elevations of 500 to 650 meters look like terraced fields made of lakes.
Numerous waterfalls connect the lakes. Sometimes the water flows through the forest, creating a rare sight of forest and water blending together.
The 16 lakes are connected by 92 waterfalls of various sizes, and when one waterfall is overcome, another cobalt blue lake and beautiful waterfall appear above it. This scenery continues up a spectacular valley that stretches for approximately 8 km.
Such “stepped lakes” are uncommon in the world. The steps separating the lakes vary from cliffs to forests on gentle slopes.
Plitvice changes appearance dramatically in winter! The temperature drops under 10 degrees below freezing, and the area is covered with snow and ice.
The surface of the lakes, which were cobalt blue in the summer, lose their color and become jet black. The waterfalls frozen over like icicles are a sight to see.
