Man of Aran was written and directed by Robert Flaherty and it was filmed entirely on location in the Aran Islands. It stars Coleman "Tiger" King, Maggie Dirrane and Michael Dirrane all islanders living there at that time. The film follows their daily routine fishing, sowing potatoes and getting by in those tough times. None of the actors are related. The film captures the struggle that the islanders had to endure all of their lives against the harsh elements of the Atlantic Ocean. The film was released on the 25th of April 1934.
