Описание к видео Treatment of Prostate Problem Without Surgery| Dr. Gaurav Gangwani (Interventional Radiologist)

Prostate artery embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlargement of the prostate gland. This condition can lead to urinary symptoms such as difficulty in starting urination, weak urine stream, frequent urination, and inability to completely empty the bladder. BPH is common in older men.

Procedure Overview:
Access: The procedure is typically performed by an interventional radiologist. It involves the insertion of a catheter, usually through the femoral artery in the groin or the radial artery in the wrist.

Guidance: Using fluoroscopy (a type of X-ray imaging), the radiologist guides the catheter to the arteries that supply blood to the prostate.

Embolization: Tiny particles are injected through the catheter into these arteries. These particles block the blood flow to the prostate.

Effect: The reduced blood supply causes the prostate to shrink, relieving the symptoms of BPH.

Advantages:
Minimally Invasive: Unlike traditional surgery, PAE involves smaller incisions, which typically leads to quicker recovery and less pain.

Preservation of Sexual Function: There is a lower risk of sexual dysfunction compared to some traditional surgical treatments for BPH.

Anesthesia: General anesthesia is usually not required.

Recovery:
Short Hospital Stay: Some patients may go home the same day, while others might stay overnight.

Post-Procedure Symptoms: Patients might experience some pelvic pain, mild burning during urination, or blood in the urine for a short period after the procedure.

Follow-Up: Regular follow-up is necessary to monitor the effectiveness and any late-onset complications.
