“二胡”是中华民族乐器家族中最主要的乐器之一，它始于唐代，古称“奚琴”，至今已有一千多年的历史，在唐代，是用竹片在两根弦之间擦弦而发音的。到了宋元时期，出现了用马尾弓拉的马尾胡琴。但是，二胡真正的发展，也就近一百多年的历史，二胡是近现代在创作、演奏、教学和乐器制作四个方面，发展得最好的中国民族乐器。现代二胡一般采用纯五度定弦，音色具有柔美抒情的特点，发出的声音极富歌唱性，宛如人的歌声，用来演奏江南的旋律实在是再合适不过了。
Erhu, which was called xiqin in ancient times, is one of the most important in the family of Chinese national musical instruments. Its history can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty more than 1000 years ago. At that time, erhu was played by rubbing two strings with a piece of bamboo. In the Song and Yuan Dynasties, there came into being a horsetail huqin played with a horsetail bow. However, the present-day erhu was developed rapidly only 100 years ago and became the most developed Chinese musical instrument for composition, performance, teaching and musical-instrument making in modern times. The modern erhu generally adopts pure fifth tuning, whose timbre is soft and lyrical like the human singing voice, which is ideal for playing melodies from the southern Yangtze region.


《江南春色》是以苏州民歌“大九连环”为素材创作而成。全曲共分：「旷野清晨」、「春回大地」、「万物争春」、「江南碧翠」、「霭乃庭湖」五个段落。乐曲的音调富有浓郁的江南地方特色，格调明快富有情趣，以优美秀丽、富于歌唱的旋律，展现出一幅江南水乡鸟语花香、泉水潺潺、春回大地、万象更新的画面，令人神往。
“Spring in the South of the Yangtze River” is based on the Suzhou folk song “A Big Chain of Nine Rings”. It is divided into five sections: “Fresh Morning in Open Fields”, “Spring Returns to the Earth”, “All Things Contend for Spring”, “Verdant Yangtze Delta”, and “A Boat Returning Home”. The tone of the music lively in style and taste is typical of the local characteristics of the southern Yangtze region. With an exquisite singing melody, it shows a fascinating picture of everything coming to life upon the return of spring in Jiangnan, a region of rivers and lakes, when birds twitter, flowers bloom, and brooks gurgle.
