A not insignificant proportion of patients develop long-term sequelae following Covid-19 infection. The incidence varies from 10% to over 70%, depending on the study. Particularly common are symptoms such as general weakness (fatigue), depression, and olfactory and gustatory disturbances.

Many of these symptoms also appear in chronic fatigue syndrome in myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS). In chronic inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system, there are studies indicating efficacy of both ketamine and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation . Since both procedures have long been used in our practice for the treatment of depression, and since depression is also often a part of post covid symptomatology, we have begun a study on this.

First results show that in most patients significant and rapid improvements in fatigue, depression and even in smell and taste disorders can be achieved.

Since both procedures show practically no relevant side effects after exclusion of possible contraindications, we have decided to include the treatment of Long Covid patients regularly in our range of therapies. As in our study design, we offer 6 ketamine infusions together with 20 units of rTMS over two weeks. Depending on the individual situation, this procedure can of course be modified.
