Air pollution causes one of eight deaths in the world, more than malaria and HIV/AIDS combined. For public health research and policy, testing low-cost sensors, public engagement, and real-time air quality datasets are critical. While thousands of stations worldwide publish data, the public often doesn’t have easy access because data are on obscure websites showing only current values, are programmatically/historically inaccessible or in inconsistent formats. OpenAQ connects people to this hard-to-reach data.
