This is a live, real-world demo of how I stop my Instinctual Core from running my day, and how I take control back using RADAR and ROAR.
Quick context:
The Instinctual Core (IC) is the ancient survival part of your mind. It runs on fast, automatic instinct. It uses fear, urgency, shame, “you HAVE to,” “you’re not good enough,” “do it later,” all that. It means to protect you — but it was built for 30,000 years ago, not 2025. Most of what it tells you is wrong for modern life.
Step 1 is separation:
You are not every thought or emotion in your head. There’s YOU, and there’s the IC.
In this video, I walk through exactly how I used that separation on something super basic: batch-prepping a hundred healthy smoothies. Normally it’s a 5-6 hour boring grind that I avoid. I woke up thinking, “I don’t want to do this, I’ll just stay in bed and watch TV.” That voice is the IC.
Here’s what I did instead:
RADAR (Recognize → Ask → Dissect → Aha → Reassign)
I noticed the internal reaction: “This sucks. I don’t want to move.”
I asked, “Is that actually me, or is that just my IC trying to conserve energy and guilt-push me later?”
I saw the hijack: it was keeping me in bed, miserable, not starting.
Aha: staying in bed was making me feel worse.
Reassign: I decided, “No. I’m taking this back. I’m doing this my way.”
Then I switched to ROAR (Reassess → Organize → Action → Reward)
Goal: Prep all the smoothies AND enjoy doing it.
I made it a challenge: “Can I finish in 2.5 hours instead of 4+?”
I appreciated the point: this is fuel so I don’t fall back into junk food.
I organized the whole kitchen before starting so it felt like a mission, not chaos.
Then I went into full-focus action, timer on, zero distractions.
Finished on time. Actually felt proud. No shame. No panic. No self-hate.
That’s the point: you do NOT have to wait for stress or guilt to drag you into motion. You can choose the task, flip it into something meaningful, and move from the human side instead of pure survival mode.
This is what we practice inside the IC Solution — separating from the Instinctual Core, retraining it, and then building a life you actually want to live.
