Night deepens. By candlelight, Rhaenyra tells her father the truth that costs: “By naming me, you divided the realm. If you wish me to bear it, then defend me.” The words hang like a prayer and a summons.

At dawn, Otto bids the maester bring milk of the poppy. Viserys refuses. Not today. Not when clarity must walk before comfort.

The court assembles for the Driftmark petition. Rhaenyra begins—“I will start by reminding the court that nearly twenty years ago…”—and then the doors open. A cane on stone. A crown on a broken man. The Kingsguard calls him: King Viserys of House Targaryen, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the Rhoynar, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm.
