What a year for Dublin football 1983 was! Masterfully blending the old and the new, legendary Dublin manager, Kevin Heffernan, inspired his charges to recapture the Sam Maguire trophy for the first time since 1977. Led by warriors of old, Brian Mullins, Tommy Drum and Anton O'Toole, Dublin would defeat Meath in the Leinster Semi-Final Replay; Matt Connor's 1982 All Ireland winners, Offaly; and a hotly fancied Cork down on Leeside in a memorable All Ireland Semi-Final Replay. Despite three sendings off, Heffo's Heroes would eventually recapture the title defeating Galway in an epic victory that would become known as the 'Final of the 12 Apostles'.
