The private cloud is entirely dedicated to a single organization, giving them full control over their data and infrastructure. Typically, a private cloud is located on the organization’s premises or it may be outsourced, but it is not accessible to the public.

The public cloud is the most common cloud deployment model, where cloud providers like AWS, GCP and Microsoft Azure offer cloud infrastructure and services that anyone can access, usually for a fee. The costs can vary based on the usage and specific offerings of the cloud provider while some resources and services may also be free. Public clouds are highly scalable, highly available and cost-effective but shared with other users.

The hybrid cloud is a mix of at least two (usually private and public) cloud deployment models, which is a popular “the best of both worlds” type of cloud solution for organizations looking to balance control and scalability. The hybrid cloud model allows organizations to leverage the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of the public cloud while maintaining control over sensitive data and applications in the private cloud.

Multicloud generally refers to the consumption of cloud services from two or more public cloud providers. Businesses adopt multicloud strategies to avoid vendor lock-in, to use services that may be available or only offered by a specific cloud provider and to potentially reduce costs as well as other reasons. However, managing multiple cloud environments can be complex.

There are also government clouds, which are isolated cloud environments created for specialized needs specifically for government agencies. These clouds meet strict security and regulatory requirements, ensuring that data stays secure and separate from public clouds.

To summarize, each cloud deployment model has its own advantages, depending on the organization’s needs — whether it’s control, flexibility, cost savings or security.
