THE RUNDOWN | On the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attack on a Jewish office building in Buenos Aires, Argentina's authorities designated Thursday Hezbollah a terrorist organization and ordered to freeze the group's assets in the country.

The move coincides with the visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Argentina's capital in commemoration of the deadly bombing that shook the country and its Jewish community.
On July 18, 1994, a suicide driver blew up a van filled with explosives, destroying the headquarters of the Jewish community known as AMIA, killing 85 people and wounding more than 200.
No one ever claimed responsibility for the bombing of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) center, though Argentina -- and Israel -- have long pointed the finger at Iran.
Argentina also blames Hezbollah for an attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 that killed 29 people.
The move by the Argentinian administration comes a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on France and all countries in Europe to designate the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah a terrorist organization.
Netanyahu made the comments while addressing French lawmakers during a meeting at the Prime Minister's office in Jerusalem.
"I think it's very important that France and the rest of Europe do exactly what Argentina did recently and that it to declare Hezbollah as a terrorist group," Netanyahu said.


Argentina's Ministry of Security took steps to establish the legal framework to label paramilitary groups engaged in violent activity as terrorists on Monday. Argentina, however, has yet to officially proscribe Hezbollah a terrorist organization.
Instead, Buenos Aires is expected to officially label Hezbollah a terrorist organization when Mike Pompeo meets with Argentinian President Mauricio Macri on Friday.
