In 1983, Larry Flynt launched The Rebel Magazine. Flynt was known for Hustler magazine but he actually had a magazine empire in the early 1980s, with close to 100 publications.

The Rebel was his attempt at a weekly news magazine that would compete with Time and Newsweek. It was an incredible magazine that reported on many of the biggest scandals of the 1980s. But it did not last for long, and the story of what was happening behind the scenes at the magazine is pretty incredible.

Legendary Researcher Mae Brussell was a contributor to The Rebel, and she spoke with Flynt on the phone every day in the magazine's early days. Larry Flynt was eventually arrested and sent to a mental asylum, and many believe he was "taken out" by certain elements that didn't want The Rebel to succeed.

The Rebel reported on bombshell stories including the FBI's harassment of Martin Luther King Jr, the JFK assassination, the Vicki Morgan tapes scandal, and other 1980s scandals, some that involved Ronald Reagan.

But Larry Flynt's The Rebel didn't last long. After only 8 issues, the magazine closed. The story behind the magazine is one of the craziest stories from the 1980s.
