So my beautiful 31 mpg Mercedes S400 Hybrid finally started exhibiting the cursed Capacitor failure symptoms. There was a repair campaign by Mercedes that would fix it for free, but as my luck would have it, it was already done on my car. Parts are no longer officially available for it, but Mercedes told me if one could be found, I could buy a "remaining stock" refurbished power electronics module for about 8 grand. No thanks. But I really love the car, it was beautifully maintained, and still looks brand new. So we are going to try and fix it by repairing it at component level, replacing the failed capacitor.
