Ratio:-
The comparison between two quantities of the same unit & obtain on dividing one quantity by the other is called a ratio.

Proportion:-
The two ratios that are equivalent to each other is called a proportion.
Product of means = Product of extremes

Properties of Ratio & Proportion:-

(I) Invertendo:-
If a/b=c/d then b/a=d/c.
(II) Alternendo:-
If a/b=c/d then a/c=b/d.
(III) Componendo:-
If a/b=c/d then (a+b)/b=(c+d)/d.
(IV) Dividendo:-
If a/b=c/d then (a-b)/b=(c-d)/d.
(V) Componendo & Dividendo
If a/b=c/d then (a+b)/(a-b)=(c+d)/(c-d).
(VI) Fourth Proportion:-
If a/b=c/d then d is called the 4th proportion.
VII) Third Proportion:-
If a/b=b/c then c is called the 3rd proportion.
VIII) Mean Proportion:-
The mean proportional b/w a & b is √ab.
(IX) Duplicate Ratio:-
The duplicate ratio of a:b is a^2:b^2.
(X) Sub-duplicate Ratio:-
The Sub-duplicate ratio of a:b is √a:√b.
(XI) Triplicate Ratio:-
The triplicate ratio of a:b is a^3:b^3.
XII) Sub-triplicate Ratio:-
The sub-triplicate ratio of a:b is a^1/3:b^1/3.
XIII) Compounded Ratio:-
The compounded ratio of the ratios (a:b),(c:d) is ac:bd.
