After India lost the match to Pakistan on Sunday, 4th of September, the Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh faced massive hate at dropping the catch in the final overs of the match. In the 18th over, which was bowled by Ravi Bishnoi, Pakistan needed 34 runs with Khushdil Shah and Asif Ali on the crease.
On the third delivery,Asif Ali played a sweep shot, and the ball went into the air and looked like an easy catch for Arshdeep Singh. However, the ball went through his hands and the catch was dropped.
According to the edit history of Mr Singh's Wikipedia page, an unregistered user replaced the words "India" with "Khalistan" at several locations on the profile, but these changes were undone within 15 minutes by Wikipedia editors. However, the Ministry of Electronics & IT today summoned executives from Wikipedia to explain how fake information on cricketer Arshdeep Singh's page linking him to the separatist Khalistani movement was published on the website. The Centre believes this misinformation could disturb communal harmony and also lead to a law and order situation for the cricketer's family. A high-level panel is likely to question the executives of the crowdsourced digital encyclopaedia Wikipedia on precautionary checks and may even issue a show cause notice. Support poured in from several former cricketers who condemned the trolling of Mr Singh. Fans have also come out in support of the young Indian pacer.
India batsman and former team captain Virat Kohli backed the young bowler, saying anyone can make mistakes in a high-pressure game, and it is important to learn from them and move on. Also recently, Virat Kohli has revealed that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the only person who ‘messaged’ him after he unexpectedly stepped down as Test captain. Speaking to the media about his last 12 months when he was also criticised for his poor form, Kohli talked about Dhoni’s phone call and the bond that they share.
“One thing I can tell you is when I gave up Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person who I’ve played with before — MS Dhoni,” said Virat Kohli after India lost the match against Pakistan. Moreover, replying to all the hate targeted on Arshdeep Singh, Another Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has said, if the ones who are targeting Arshdeep have guts, they should be commenting with their original accounts.
