Moths, or Lepidopterans active mostly during the night, are captivating insects. They're stereotypically considered to be dull but that cannot be further from the truth, as BsC Zoology graduate Leanna Rohini Fernandez knows full well. She will teach us how moths survive the winter season. It is important to keep our gardens unattended during these colder months as they provide safe havens for elephant hawk moth (Deilephila elpenor) pupae and their cocoons. The darkness and cold of subterrenean locations serves well the herald moth (Scoliopteryx libatrix). But not all moths sleep during the winter. Some are still active, and Leanna will show us some of them using a moth trap.
