Cemented hip replacements use a bone cement (called polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA) to fix the implant to the bone, creating a strong bond. Cemented hip replacements are typically recommended for patients with thin or porous bones, such as those with osteoporosis or a history of bone irradiation. They provide better fixation due to cement penetration. In contrast, uncemented hip replacements are favored for patients with good bone stock, young individuals, and in cases of revision surgery. The implants have a porous surface that allows natural bone growth, creating a strong bond over time. Uncemented hip replacements rely on bone on-growth (osseointegration) for fixation and the choice of fixation depends on factors like a patient's age, bone quality, and specific hip anatomy #hiparthroplasty #jointreplacement
