Life after Myomectomy

The total recovery time after myomectomy depends on the type of procedure performed. The recovery time for hysteroscopic myomectomy is 2 to 3 days, laparoscopic myomectomy is 2 to 4 weeks and an abdominal myomectomy is 4 to 6 weeks.

Do not take a bath until your doctor tells you it is okay, especially for the first 2 weeks after surgery. Rest when you feel tired. Getting enough sleep will help you recover.

Walking: Try to walk each day, bit by bit, increase the amount you walk.

Lifting: Avoid lifting children, heavy grocery bags, milk containers, a heavy briefcase or backpack, or a vacuum cleaner.

Sexual activities: Ask your doctor when it’s safe for you to have sex. You may have to wait up to 6 weeks.

Pregnancy after surgery: Ask your doctor when you can safely conceive a baby. You might need to wait 3 to 6 months for your uterus to fully heal."

Diet: To avoid an upset stomach, try bland, low-fat foods like plain rice, boiled chicken, toast, and yogurt. Drink plenty of fluids.
