During Tuesday’s White House Press Briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt answered questions about President Trump's reciprocal tariffs that will go into effect April 2nd, 2025. The questions were posed by Mark, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Two Way, a new live video platform focused on interactive conversations with leaders and content creators. Mark inquired whether companies or countries could alter President Trump's tariff plans by changing their policies either before or after the implementation date, and if so, what factors the President would consider in making such changes.  

Leavitt responded by stating that the ultimate change for these companies and countries would occur when they decide to conduct business in the United States. She emphasized that companies would face no tariffs if they choose to invest in the United States and move their production and manufacturing to the country.

Leavitt reiterated that President Trump will address decades of unfair trade practices that have negatively impacted the United States and American workers. She stated that these practices have contributed to the hollowing out of the American middle class and the destruction of the nation's heartland. She conveyed President Trump's focus on reshaping the global economy to restore America as the world's manufacturing superpower.  

Regarding the possibility of policy changes influencing tariff decisions, Leavitt indicated that while the President is always open to taking calls and engaging in negotiations, his primary focus is on rectifying past wrongs and ensuring that American workers are treated fairly. She confirmed that President Trump would be open to considering changes even after the tariffs are implemented if companies express a willingness to change.
