Hampi - The Vitthala Temple - Vijaya Vittala Temple Complex

Описание к видео Hampi - The Vitthala Temple - Vijaya Vittala Temple Complex

The Vitthala Temple is a masterpiece of 15th Century Vijayanagara architecture, and is the most visited tourist attraction in Hampi, excluding the active Virupaksha Temple.
The exceptional craftsmanship is unrivalled, not just in Hampi but anywhere else in the empire. The most notable, or most popular, elements of the temple are the musical pillars and the stone chariot, the latter of which represents Garuda, Lord Vishnu's mount.
The temple was built during the reign of King Devaraya II in the Dravidian style, some time between 1422 and 1446. Many parts of the temple were expanded under the greatest of all Vijayanagara kings, Krishnadevaraya, some time between 1509 and 1529.
Another mandapa was added in 1544.
Unfortunately, only 21 years later, the temple, like the rest of Hampi, was sacked and burned by the invading Deccan Sultanates after the Battle of Talikota in 1565.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Vitthala, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
