Shawn Liotta, Head Coach at Burrell High School (PA) and creator of the No Huddle No Mercy offense, explains how they use drills to practice one of the most important plays in their offense, the inside choice concept. This requires A LOT of practice reps to get better and run it successfully, so take notes.

Alright, let's take a look at how we drill this thing, guy, because, you know, as the same with the outside choice, the inside choice, you really want to work, you know, how you how you drill the deal. So, the biggest thing, okay is, you know, we line up, you know, in this scenario, let me let me Here you go, this is a better shot. Okay, this is the setup of it. So how we set up the inside choice drill is we'll have obviously our quarterbacks taking a snap, or we'll have we'll have an area outside defender he'll have a shield. Okay, 11 area inside defenders, well, you get a drop there. Alright, we'll have when we will pair it with the outside of seat we'll put the outside of see right there sometimes with with the corner. Alright, so we get, we obviously want to get that look, and then the triangle is a safety now we have our coach be the safety. And the reason for that is we put a coach there, because the coach can vary the read and he's not really involved in the physical, you know, part of the play. And I just think it saves you a lot of time to put your put a coach back there, you know, DBS coach and stuff. Love that because they get to go out there and play like they're, they're a DB anyway. But But you go ahead and put those guys out there and they give you a really, really good look. And put you in a spot to where though they're gonna vary the looks. So just to save bodies and football, use a coach out there for okay, but this guy's got a hand shield. And again, he's working rerouting he's working really collision. And so because we're really working the whole outside release part of it and clear in the under coverage deal is really, really important. So you know, here's, here's some examples of it. And we'll we'll go out of different sets. So this was out of our, you know, the trips, you know, we're working it, alright. You know, and this kind of gives you the real, the real flow of how it goes, we got another group bought another group off, we're ready to go. You don't get it snapped. You know, and we go, alright, we're getting those reads on the safety, we're getting those, those third level reads as we go through. And that's, that's essentially what it's all about. So, so we're working the shield, we're getting our eyes on the, we're eyes on the safety, you know, for the inside read, and we spend significant amounts of time, like I said, doing these kinds of things, this is this is not something that we we again, come out and Iran in a smelly scenario. I mean, we do very little Skelly, to be honest with you, we do most of these kinds of things, you know, where he's again, you know, he's working, he's beaten, he's beaten the under coverage, he's clear in the under coverage, okay, with the shield, he's getting his eyes on the safety, alright, He's working his break, you know, we're working the throw all those all those kinds of things, and you have to do these things, you know, over and over and over and over again. And that's the only way you really are going to be able to, to, you know, be able to truly execute well, you know, against different looks, you know, and we don't ever script the looks and when I talk about practice schedules and things like that, we don't we don't script like we don't have a blitz period of thing I guess it was always like a pet peeve of mine is a coach was you know, guys would will take you know, their play their play scripts for practice, right? And they'll take those play scripts and they'll they'll go ahead and card them up against like what they want to see. So you know, guys will run a slip screen and they'll card it up against a Forman pressure to the side of the slip screen and it's like you know what, in the game I can't go ahead and call a timeout until Coach Smith across the way Coach go ahead and send that formando to the to the to the backside because I'm going to go ahead and run the the slip screen that way. So that'll work out real well for us if you do that and we don't know what they're gonna do so we don't we don't we don't script looks in against a scout team they can do what they want. Same thing coverage wise because we don't know what they're gonna do in the game. So you got to do whatever they want, you know, on the backside, whatever kind of coverage and have back end and we just go out Try to try to get the reps and try to get the recognition and try to get the looks and you know,
