Porridge is a favourite with preppers and campers, it's a cheap and easy meal to make at home, at work or when out and about camping or backpacking.

You can get instant pots that are very useful when at work, out camping, or as a stash in your vehicle for emergencies.

But that convenience comes at a price, you can make the same mix for a tenth of the commercial price and store it in zip lock bags to use as required that will last for about 3 months.

Base Porridge mix;

40g oats
10g powdered milk
180ml water (vary to suit personal required consistency)

add as required sugar, salt, or fruit as preferred

Preparation;

Add boiling water to mix and stand for 2-3 minutes in a sealed container like this mug I used

If camping the close fitting Yugoslavian mess kit that I use to cook rice is also excellent for this:

   • Super Easy Perfectly Cooked Camp Rice  

or

Add cold water and microwave on full power for 2 minutes, wait 1 minute and stir mixture, then microwave for another minute

A single serving like this has about 400kCal and 17g of protein before any other additives for about £0.13 per portion compared to the off the shelf pots at £1.30 a portion!
