Writeup & Overview

The Tube Screamer Overdrive is a tried and tested classic for a good reason.

It’s a tool which can give your tone and stup that extra push in your compositions and performances with a simple but effective layout and sound that can create an array of different tones and colors: from screaming leads to crunchy, honky or mid-boosted rhythm parts.

It’s used best in conjunction with a tube or non-digital amplifier to really push the signal going into the amp and get those warm tubes moving!

1. A UTILITARIAN TONE CLASSIC

While we didn’t have a chance to do a demonstration with the tube screamer overdrive in a mix with other instruments today, be sure that it’s lead tones in particular can really cut through a dense mix with ease both in the studio and in live situations.

There’s a reason that it’s revered as the best screamer pedal by many guitarists as well as appearing on many records where the Mid-Frequencies have to just pop out of the speakers! (Also don’t forget to try it on some Synthesizers for even more possibilities.)

2. DURABLE AND STURDY

Despite its low price and relative size, it’s built very well and doesn’t feel like it’s going to let you down anytime soon! For a live performer this is a big, big plus.

And of course it saves you a bunch of money in the studio too as you don’t have to replace it very often! (I’ve had my personal tubescreamer for 5 years now with no issues so far and consistent use.)

3. MIXING WELL WITH OTHERS

While not within the scope of a single video, the Tube Screamer Overdrive really shines when it’s used in conjunction with other pedals and as a finishing little touch/pedal to include in your particular sound palette!

Being able to just peak and really bring out the critical mid-range during a solo really is a ‘not-so-secret’ secret weapon for the Lead Guitarist.

As shown in the video though, while it’s famous and mostly used for Lead it can also be used on Rhythm parts to create a range of scratchy to honky tones for you to experiment with.

In Conclusion

If you’ve got your basic/favorite/personal tone down and want a pedal which can add that extra little boost and bite with just the quick switch of a button, then this is your pedal!

With just 3 controls on the front of the pedal you can get a deceptive range of mid-range boosted tones which can work in an array of different sections in your composition as well as, of course, as a blistering lead boost which cuts through the mix in the studio and a live situation.

We did our best to show off some of the range of the pedal on it’s own today, but of course, you should take it for a spin for yourself with your own amp, guitar or setup to see how it can work for you and get you some new cutting tones to add to your productions!
