In this mini documentary, filmed by Carbon Exposure, we’re featuring Sinal do Vale, a reforestation and regeneration project close to Rio de Janeiro, in the Atlantic Forest. We travelled to their site together with Equitable Earth, a new carbon standard that also includes Sinal do Vale under its umbrella.

This film captures what regeneration looks like on the ground — from forest restoration and community engagement to the people making it happen.

🌱 About Sinal do Vale
Sinal do Vale is a UN Flagship Biohub located on 200 hectares of land at the edge of the Serra da Estrela mountains, about 50 km from downtown Rio de Janeiro. Founded by Thais Corral, it’s both a living laboratory and a learning campus for bioregional regeneration — reconnecting ecosystems, communities, and local economies.

Their work spans across:
Forest restoration and agroforestry using native species to revive the Atlantic Forest; local food systems like Madre Frutos; producing plant-based foods such as jackfruit products that support sustainable livelihoods; and regenerative tourism and education, including the 110 km Caminho do Recôncavo da Guanabara trail, linking ecological restoration with cultural and economic renewal.

🌍 Why this matters
The Atlantic Forest is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth — and one of the most threatened. Projects like Sinal do Vale show how regeneration can be both ecological and social: restoring landscapes while creating meaningful work and community resilience.
