I took this video of the Southern Pacific Oil Can unit train - symbol - BKDOU (Bakersfield-Dolores Unit train) on September 1, 1991. This is some of my earlier video, and is hand-held. This awesome train is captured first navigating the big horseshoe curve at Caliente, and crossing the bridge over Bealville Road near milepost 336. The next scent is at Bena, where the engines are working even harder to overcome the grade. The final scene is at Woodford. These scenes are historically significant showing the classic oil train, a favorite of SP fans the world over, running all EMD power and a working gyralite! The second unit on the head end is SD40R 7319, sometimes called the "Desert Storm" commemorative unit because of its severely peeled paint job revealing the sandy colored primer beneath. The reason for the paint peeling was a change to a more environmentally friendly paint formulation.
