Protests have been staged across the Afghan capital Kabul, following the Taliban move to indefinitely ban women from attending universities. Since the December 20, 2022, decision was announced, reports have emerged of arrests at rallies and a violent crackdown on protesters by Taliban authorities. The university ban is the latest of several restrictions on women imposed by the hardline Islamist group since it retook control of the country in 2021.
