My dad used to work on this farm when he was young and I used to walk my dog on amongst other things for years.. it has always been there you would never think that these beautiful fields would become so cold... with bricks and mortar
Churwell used to be a small village with a small rd running through the middle down to the M621 And the small industrial estate at the bottom Then the industrial estate started to extend the white rose shopping centre was built amongst other things.
The traffic was already ridiculous by this stage on a morning whereas it used to take you about three minutes to get to the motorway it was now starting to take you 10 or 15 then despite years of objections Persimmon homes got their wish to build on these beautiful fields which have fed our nation for years... 800 new homes plus a school(It might have changed now) To the other side of the village there used to be a scrap yard and a brick works they built new homes and called it churwell new village (I think they called it that because Churwell as a village wouldn't be a village anymore there are certain criteria that have to be met to be a village ) then they extend that and built on another farm not so far away.
About 15 years prior to that maybe a bit longer they built a massive housing complex at the top of the hill... so in the past 20 years or so I estimate it was probably 2500 homes built in a small village they also got rid of the post office and a pub which is now a Tesco's extra which is a magnet for thieves.....
The man road Elland Rd Was originally built for horse and cart and then trams and hasn't been widened much at all over the years because of their homes that are already there .
During the Various planning applications it was noted hundreds of times that the road cannot take any more traffic... but yet it was ignored.... I left the area before they started building the 800 houses and the school and the train station which I forgot to mention earlier.
Having travelled the countryside for a few years I know that there is miles of open land which could be turned into a complete city.. but yet they want to ram as many houses in one small village as they can just for their own profit.....
Yes I know we need the countryside And I know we need homes but we shouldn't be building on green fields... We live on a island we need as much greenery as possible...
