Average Value of a Continuous Function on an Interval

Описание к видео Average Value of a Continuous Function on an Interval

We know how to compute the average of a list of numbers. But what about the average for a continuous function on an interval? We will use an approximation of the function by a list of points to derive that the average value is proportional to the area under the curve, i.e the definite integral.

FORMULA: f_avg = 1/(b-a) * int_a^b f(x)dx

Learning mathematics is best done by actually DOING mathematics. A video like this can only ever be a starting point. I might show you the basic ideas, definitions, formulas, and examples, but to truly master math means that you have to spend time - a lot of time! - sitting down and trying problems yourself, asking questions, and thinking about mathematics. So before you go on to the next video, pause and go THINK.
