Ranking Indian Universities Like Looking for Life Signs in a Patient: Prof Krishna Kumar

Prime Time today discusses the methodologies used in giving accreditations and rankings for institutions of higher learning in India. Professor Krishna Kumar of Delhi University says that the 'whole system' of higher education in India is in a deplorable condition and that corruption is 'widespread'. He adds that given none of the top institutions of higher education being able to make it to the top 250 ranks at the international level is itself an indication that our universities are 'not eligible to be evaluated' and ranked on any parameter. A countrywide ranking of educational institutions was released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on Monday in which Indian Institute of Science was ranked as the top university in India.
