Mourners will gather Friday at a Queens church for the wake of a New York Police Department officer who was killed along with his partner in an ambush shooting.
Officer Rafael Ramos will be remembered Friday afternoon at Christ Tabernacle Church, in the Glendale section of Queens, where he was a longstanding and deeply committed member, according to family and friends.
Ramos was killed Dec. 20 along with his partner, Officer Wenjian Liu, as they sat in their patrol car on a Brooklyn street. The shooter, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, later killed himself.
Liu's funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a charity created after 9/11, says it will pay off the home mortgages of the two slain officers.
The organization has a fundraising goal of $800,000.
So far, it's raised $75,000.
