The distributed nature cloud native applications, makes it difficult to troubleshoot incidents when they occur. Finding the root cause with the shortest time to resolution is key to delivering critical services at scale.

This talk gives an overview of what challenges OpenTelemetry addresses. It aims at helping developers and ops bootstrap their observability journey by incorporating it since day one. In its essence the OpenTelemetry project enables the instrumentation of applications and the collection of metrics, logs and traces to telemetry into backends such as Prometheus/Grafana Mimir, Grafana Loki and Grafana Tempo. The data can then be visualized and correlated using Grafana. This ecosystem will allow seamless correlation between the different telemetry signals to get an instant understanding of the bottlenecks in a distributed architecture.
