Mipso - Dublin Blues (Guy Clark Cover)

We just released our version of Guy Clark’s “Dublin Blues.” It has a couplet that comes as close as anything to summing up our musical philosophy: “I have seen the David, seen the Mona Lisa too / And I have heard Doc Watson sing Columbus Stockade Blues…”

Before Covid we’d been playing “Dublin Blues” live for 6 or 7 years. I remember listening to it with Libby in college, and I think of it as our gateway into the wide world of Texas weirdos—Townes Van Zandt and Kris Kristofferson, but also Willis Alan Ramsay and Billie Joe Shaver and Ramsay Midwood. We never planned on recording it—Isn’t it nice to have a song you can only hear at a show?—but the pandemic made us reconsider. Since the song has been a gift to us, we decided the best way to
honor it was to pass it along.
