There are lots of kinds of raku. This is a copper heavy glaze from ‪@MaycoColors‬ called peacock matte that will turn copper when it is starved of air. You do this by surrounding it with smoke when it is hot. Once it is copper and in the smoke (reduction) you then expose it back into the air and it almost magically changes colour! Really what is happening is that it is oxidising or rusting, trying to go green. BUT if you stop the reaction by quenching the pot in water then you trap the colour change and get rainbows 🌈

I’ve left this one with the sound on so you know what to expect when you quench it! The hiss and pop of the steam as the red hot pot hits the water 💦
