At The Jazz Band Ball (1917)

Описание к видео At The Jazz Band Ball (1917)

Very early jazz piece written by Nick LaRocca and Larry Shields of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, first recorded as "At The Jass Band Ball" on September 3, 1917 (the band name was also spelled "Jass" at the time). The ultimate version, in my opinion, was recorded ten years later by Bix Beiderbecke And His Gang, with Adrian Rollini on bass saxophone. I've been obsessed with that particular recording for a while and when I recently got it on original 78, I just had to make my own version. I'm playing a late 1940s Martin Style 3 uke, a ±1927 National uke-banjo, a 1950s archtop guitar from Eastern-Germany and a laminate double bass that used to belong to the one and only Ukulele Uff (from his slappin' psychobilly days). The shades are vintage Dior and more importantly: I'm wearing an official Bad Mouse Orchestra Style 3 boater hat.
