Let’s assume you are to take over the management of a public hospital the main aim being to turn it into a sustainable business

How will you categorize and manage the stakeholders?

The easiest way to look at stakeholders is by analyzing their interest in the project and the degree of their influence

Basically, their level of power and degree of interest

Mendelow developed a simple but effective “two by two” matrix that enables us to categorise
stakeholders as:

1. Key players – those with high power and a high level of interest in the organisation
2. Keep satisfied – those with high power but currently a low level of interest in the organisation;
3. Keep informed – those with a high level of interest but low power;
4. Minimal effort – those who aren’t really that interested in the organisation and don’t have much power either.
