The story behind Peepal Baba : the man who planted 1.27 crore Peepal trees

Peepal Baba has been planting trees since the year 1977, when he was just 11 years old. He planted his first Peepal tree on 26th January 1977, which is his birthday, and the Republic Day of India. 45 years later, he is still going strong, having planted and preserved 1.27 crore Peepal trees (also called Ficus religiosa, sacred fig, bodhi tree), and planting several lakh trees every year with his organization ‪@givemetreestrust‬
The peepal tree holds a very important place in Indian spirituality, and in religions like Hinduism and Buddhism.

Swami Prem Parivartan aka Peepal Baba is synonymous with the planting and preservation of the peepal tree. Since 1977, he has planted and preserved more than 12.5 million peepal trees.
He is the founder of Give Me Trees, which is the largest volunteer based tree planting and preservation organizations in India. Give Me Trees has planted and preserved more than 20 million trees across India.
