How to cover cystic acne with makeup 💕- As some of you may remember, last year was exceptionally rough in terms of my skin. I developed horrible cystic acne on my chin, and it didn’t stop until my chin was covered in huge, painful red bumps ☹️. I knew it was going to take a very long time to heal. In the meantime, I accepted that I had acne, and I learned how to effectively cover it up with makeup. I didn’t cover it all the time, just when I was going out.

Texture caused by cystic acne is not going to magically go away when you put makeup on. You will still see bumps on the skin and there is absolutely no way around that, especially if your acne is pretty severe. When you cover cystic acne with makeup, the goal is to cover up the redness and hyper-pigmentation. This in turn helps make the acne less noticeable to you and those around you.

The best makeup for cystic acne is something that is full coverage. I would stay away from extremely matte foundations though, as I found those tended to accentuate the texture. Instead, I found that luminous matte or natural finishes worked best for me. I really like the @narsissist All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation because it has a thin consistency, yet offers full coverage. It definitely helped me feel more confident. I also recommend a good setting powder to keep the foundation in place.

The best technique I found for applying the foundation over all the bumps was to dot it on first. Then, using a flat kabuki brush, press the foundation into your skin. Keep pressing until the foundation is blended in. I feel that this gives a more fuller coverage. Plus, if your acne medication is causing flaking skin, using a swirling motion will make it worse. You’ll also press your setting powder in.
