Duke of York Island | Part 1

The first chapter of an epic journey to the Duke of York Islands begins! Invited by my cousin and brother-in-law to document the vibrant Tabar Cultural Festival, this episode marks the start of our adventure. We set off from Port Moresby, flying to Kavieng, where we explore the Laraibina Eel Farm before heading to the west coast of Namatanai. From there, an exciting dinghy ride takes us to Mioko Island. Over the next few days, we dive into the island’s rich history, including a visit to the Virian caves—used by the Japanese during World War II—before concluding with a refreshing swim at the iconic Nagilgil Point.
