Scott Joplin - Peacherine Rag - "3 Pianos on Fire"

This was Scott Joplin's third solo rag, published in 1901. Not far removed from the cakewalk era, it accepts a rousing tempo quite readily. You can imagine the high-steppers really strutting to this back in the day!

This was the third performance of the 45-minute "Three Pianos on Fire" set at the 2009 Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival in Sutter Creek, California. It followed "Pine Apple Rag" (previously posted) and "Sunflower Slow Drag" (not posted; you should have been there!).

There were plenty of antics between numbers, and I leave some of them in here as they introduce the next number (which also will not be posted; you should have been there!).

Left to right are Frederick Hodges, Tom Brier and Patrick Aranda. After the video ends, they swap pianos (which they did after every number), so it's Patrick who plays a bit of "The Stripper" which you hear coming from the left piano.
