A few years ago, when I was creating my illustrations mostly digitally, I've made a series of creatures from the Greek mythology and for a few days I was thinking how cool would be to attempt to illustrate some Greek gods and goddesses as well. So I gave a shot and created this illustration representing the first goddess ever, Gaia, the ancestral mother of all life. I tried to make the illustration similar to the old codex book pages, including some earthy elements, since she is the personification of the Earth.

To create this illustration, I used black Staedtler pigment liners and Graphix Aqua ink, different professional watercolors and white gel pen on 30x40 cm 270 gsm rough Hahnemühle Torchon watercolor paper. The illustration size is 21x29,7 cm.
