On April 20, 1999, Kacey found herself in the middle of what would become known as one of the deadliest school shootings in the United States. Kacey was in the school's library when the shooters entered the building. She was shot in the right shoulder at close range. At 17, Kacey faced a real possibility of losing her arm... until medical professionals in Denver and across the country, worked to use the gift of tissue donation to save it.
