Hurricane Milton barrels toward Florida's Gulf Coast, spawns tornadoes

Hurricane Milton raced toward Florida's Gulf Coast, where landfall was expected Wednesday evening. Storm surge of 13 feet or more was expected, with more than a foot or more of rain. An outbreak of tornadoes was reported across the state. NBC News' Lester Holt spoke with officials and residents on the Gulf Coast.

Sarasota braced for a direct hit from Hurricane Milton, with the threat of storm surge potentially causing catastrophic damage to homes and other buildings. NBC News' Tom Llamas reports.

Ft. Myers could experience a major storm surge as Hurricane Milton hits, and thousands of people have evacuated to shelters. NBC News' Sam Brock reports that the area has already seen dangerous conditions.

The threat to Orlando and other inland cities was from torrential rain and potentially deadly flooding from Hurricane Milton. NBC News' Priscilla Thompson reports.
