GORILLA family - Zoo Antwerpen (B) - zoovenirs (57)

Recordings during several visits.
1- before noon, the gorillas kept themselves busy in the 'waiting room', while a zookeeper was cleaning the indoor enclosure.
2- because of the cold, the gorillas are kept inside and they follow quite the same routine every day.
3- l noticed that the sisters Thandie and Vizazi enjoy playing again. lt's a relief to see that they go on in life after the passing of their dad Matadi.

As usual, it's never easy to know what the gorillas will do and where and for how long action will take place. l witnessed an unexpected scuffle between Amahoro and Mayani, but was too late to record it.
l had a chat with the female zookeeper, who did the 'talk of the day'. It's still not clear which one of the gorilla females will take over leadership of the group. She agreed with me that there are signs that it will be Amahoro. Amahoro is not of the same subspecies as the others all are, but she is the strongest, biggest and oldest one. When Matadi was still around, she kept her distance to the others, but always was a loving 'auntie' to Thandie and Vizazi. The zookeeper told me she had witnessed Amahoro's intervention several times when Mayani and Mambele were quarelling, the way Matadi used to do.
