Temporal Chaos
Temporal Chaos is a project created by Kenneth Feinstein of NTU and James Morris of Ravensbourne. It is a transcontinental installation done in collaboration with Science Centre Singapore and the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, UK. It consists of two installations running simultaneously in Singapore and London. The purpose of the project is to present concepts of globalization in an historical context. As well as giving a physical presence to the displacement of time and space found in contemporary business and culture. This will be done through the creation of physical spaces at each museum resembling 19th century business spaces. The spaces are lit through the use of projectors. The projected light will mimic how sunlight projected in each other’s space, i.e. the Singapore space will be as if it was London. Within each space the shadows created by the objects within will contain a video of the other city. For example, London will have shadows reflecting Singapore’s light with images of Singapore inside the shadows projected on the floor. A further element to the project is the placement of ultra-directional speakers in the space. This will allow the viewers to hear testimonies from people from the present and the colonial era speak about what their lives were like.
