Описание к видео Luke Griffith on CJI2 Prep, Team New Wave, and the Future of Jiu-Jitsu

Luke Griffith on CJI2 Prep, Team New Wave, and the Future of Jiu-Jitsu

Reflecting on his own journey, Luke recalled starting jiu-jitsu at age five, initially training with his father and sister in their home gym. Despite early challenges (including getting "beat up" by his sister!), he's grateful his dad "forced" him to continue, leading to the incredible path he's on now. He recounted the pivotal moment his dad, initially hesitant about a pro career, saw an ADCC trials advertisement that sparked their shared passion for the sport, a bond they maintain with daily conversations.

At four years into his training under John Danaher, Luke is witnessing jiu-jitsu's explosive growth firsthand. He feels "blessed to be able to actually be able to pay everything and... live my life solely based on competing in jiu jitsu." He believes competing organizations, despite occasional rivalries, are crucial for pushing the sport forward.

Griffith also weighed in on ideal rule sets, preferring longer, single matches over rounds, especially for elite competition, to allow for more decisive finishes. He spoke candidly about dealing with online negativity and DMs, using them as motivation to prove doubters wrong. Looking ahead to the CJI2 atmosphere at Thomas & Mack, Luke is excited for the energy, even anticipating a crowd hoping Team New Wave loses. He's particularly eager for the "Royal Rumble" style quintet format, embracing the unknown element and aiming to "take out a whole team."

Finally, Luke offered his perspective on exclusive contracts in jiu-jitsu, suggesting they could be detrimental at this stage due to limited opportunities within single organizations. He advocates for a landscape that allows athletes more fights and diverse opponents, believing it ultimately benefits the sport's growth and viewership.
